State-run Portuguese hospitals will see budget cuts of 25-30% under austerity plans from the ruling Socialist government as it battles to avoid an EU bail out. Meanwhile, the rival conservative Social Democrats have come out with a radical plan calling for much more private sector involvement. A snap election could be months away.
