Interview: Filippo Monteleone, directeur generale, Generale de Santé

With 2010 sales of  €1.93bn, Generale de Santé is by far France’s largest private hospital group in what is Europe’s largest private hospital market.  The company works almost exclusively for the French public payor which pays private operators a tariff which is on average around 30% lower than that paid to public hospitals.  Although listed, only 2-3% of Generale de Santé shares actually trade and the company has a reputation for being somewhat secretive and an unwilling communicator. We talk to Monteleone about strategy and how GdS perceives the French market.
