A Cambridge academic told me about a mad and brilliant Icelander, Dr Kári Stefánsson, who is pioneering genetic variant testing for the masses based upon the famous Icelandic database.

Decodeme has now been refinanced and is attacking the US consumer market with a test for 49 conditions for $985. This has to be a huge mass market some time soon (really soon). Interestingly, Decodeme seems to be well ahead of the pack. Put genetic testing into google.co.uk, google.fr or google.de and all you get is 2-5 ads for paternity testing.

Here is a link to the decodeme.com website. The company was brought back to life in a deal with Polaris Ventures and Arch Venture Partners in January after delisting on NASDAQ and filing for Chapter 11 with debts of over $300m having got through $700m of investment.
